World Bank Breaks Silence Over Delayed NYOTA Funds Disbursement
The World Bank has conducted a joint implementation assistance mission to assess progress on the government’s National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project.
On Tuesday, June 9, the World Bank met with NYOTA Fund manager Augustine Mayabi, officials from the Project Management Unit (PMU), and project coordinators to assess the programme’s implementation.
The World Bank’s discussion with government officials aimed to improve project implementation, address growing program issues, notably funding, and guarantee that the project achieves its intended goal.
“The World Bank has undertaken a joint implementation support mission to review the progress and performance of the NYOTA Project,” the government stated.
“The mission is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen implementation, address emerging challenges.”

Adding, “The mission reflects the continued commitment of all stakeholders to ensure the successful execution and impact of the NYOTA Project countrywide.”
This comes as worries rise over the delayed delivery of the second tranche of the Ksh25,000 grant to more than 122,000 youth beneficiaries throughout Kenya’s 47 counties.
The widespread concerns prompted the Co-Operatives Ministry to issue a formal clarification on the delays, with the government attributing the delays to budgetary constraints.

In a statement on June 2, 2026, Cooperatives Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni urged the youths to exercise patience as the government moves to resolve the issue.
“The government acknowledges the increasing inquiries and the concerns from the beneficiaries on the disbursement of the second tranche and regrets the delay,” said Mang’eni.
She went on to add, “The delays have been inadvertently caused by the compression of the project and concentration of the attendant budgetary requirements in one fiscal year.”
To address the matter, the PS announced the government’s plan to disburse the second tranche of the funds by June 30, 2026, following consultations with the National Treasury.
Unlike the first phase of the grant rollout, where beneficiaries received funds in batches, the government announced that all approved beneficiaries will receive their grants simultaneously once the funds are released.
