DCI Makes Random Arrests, Investigates Politicians Over June 25 Protest
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has cautioned that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is actively investigating politicians accused of gathering goons ahead of the Thursday, June 25, protests, while confirming that some people have been arrested.
According to Murkomen, a senior politician is under investigation for reportedly hiring goons to hijack a match scheduled to memorialize adolescents slain during the fatal 2024 anti-finance law riots.
Speaking to the press at Harambee House on Wednesday evening, Murkomen stated that police intelligence indicates that youngsters from the Nairobi Metropolitan region are being mobilized to disrupt the match.
Murkomen did not name individuals, but he did say that a politician who told Kenyans not to protest was behind the mobilization.
CS Murkomen: When we arrest people, you quickly post that they have been abducted and profile them as human rights defenders even criminals. They survive because they get positively profiled, including being celebrated and commemorated for the evil acts that they engage in. CS Murkomen: We also have intelligence indicating that, in several counties neighbouring Nairobi, criminals are being mobilised to attack businesses owned by leaders and businesspeople associated with the government as a way of sending a message. The tactic, Murkomen says, is a calculated use of reverse psychology on the government meant to sue protesters to turn up, designed to create chaos, then point fingers at the government for it.
“Those who are insinuating that the government is working with goons, including those who apply reverse psychology, tried to blame the government and the police on matters of violence and to try to tell the public that tomorrow the government is going to plant goons,” stated Murkomen.

The sentiments by Murkomen come against the backdrop of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claims on Tuesday, 23.
Gachagua strongly warned Gen Z protesters against taking to the streets for the June 25, 2026, memorial demonstrations.
Speaking from his residence in Wamunyoro on June 23, he urged the youth to stay indoors, claiming he possesses credible intelligence that the state has orchestrated plans to unleash severe violence and chaos.
Additionally, Gachagua extended his advisory beyond the youth, calling for a total shutdown in areas including Nairobi, the Mount Kenya region, Kajiado, and Narok, terming them ‘heavily targeted’ for state violence.
In this regard, Murkomen was categorical that any person found armed on the streets during tomorrow’s protests will face the full force of the law, regardless of who hired them.
