President William Ruto has announced many important development initiatives for Meru County.

Speaking at a public gathering in Meru on June 28, 2026, the President stated that the initiatives are part of the government’s larger effort to improve livelihoods, extend access to healthcare, and create more economic opportunities for locals.

Ruto declared that the government will build 17 new contemporary markets throughout the county to increase business activity and support local traders.

He also stated that Ksh 50 million will be set aside for the construction of a stadium in Maua, asking local authorities to collaborate with citizens on the project’s design to ensure it benefits the community.

In the health sector, the President said the Government had already begun construction of Nyambene Hospital and allocated additional funding towards the facility.

A nation may build magnificent schools, but if it neglects character, it builds its future on quicksand.

As we invest in education, we must remain equally committed to nurturing integrity, responsibility, and strong values in our young people.

He further announced that the Government had committed Ksh1 billion towards the construction of a Level 6 hospital in Meru town.

According to Ruto, the new hospital is intended to reduce the need for residents to travel to Nairobi for specialised treatment and improve access to quality healthcare within the county.

He said the facility is expected to be completed and operational before December 2026.

“I do not want people of Meru travelling all the way to Nairobi for treatment. That is why we are building a Level 6 hospital here in Meru,” the President said.

Beyond infrastructure and healthcare, the President also stressed the importance of nurturing discipline and values among young people.
