Kenya Railways Issues Statement On Online Madaraka Express Ticket Booking

Kenya Railways has alerted the public about fraudulent platforms that sell bogus Madaraka Express Passenger Service tickets.

In a public notice released on Friday, July 10, the railway operator stated that phoney websites, social media pages, and individuals were deceiving customers into making payments through unapproved means.

Passengers who attempted to book train tickets through these platforms claimed financial losses as a result of the fraudulent activity.

“Kenya Railways wishes to notify members of the public that fraudulent websites, social media pages and individuals are impersonating the Corporation and deceiving customers into making payments through fraudulent channels, resulting in financial loss,” the notice stated.

The organization advised travelers who have experienced rail ticketing fraud to report the occurrences via its legitimate contact channels.

“If you have fallen victim to train booking fraud, please report the incident immediately by calling 0709907000 or 0709907555, or by emailing info@krc.co.ke,” the notice added.

The corporation stated that it is collaborating with relevant security agencies to investigate fraudulent operations and identify individuals behind the schemes.

The warning comes amid increased use of online platforms by travellers seeking to reserve high-demand train seats.

The notice explained that passengers can purchase tickets online through the official booking portal on the Kenya Railways website or via the USSD code *639#.

Additionally, tickets can be purchased by visiting Madaraka Express Passenger Service stations countrywide.

Passengers seeking the new seats offered in upgraded coaches on the Nairobi-Mombasa line must book over the counter, as online bookings may not guarantee seats in the upgraded coaches.

Members of the public have been cautioned to verify booking channels before making any payments.
