KUCCPS Announces Inter-University Transfers, Sets Running Period
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened the 2026 Inter-Institutional Transfer Application window, setting the deadline for August 14.
In a notice issued on Friday, July 17, the agency said the transfer period will run for 30 days.
This will allow students who were recently placed in universities, colleges or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to apply for a change.
The service advised students who wish to transfer from their current placement to take advantage of the available window and complete the process online.
“Were you recently placed in a university or TVET programme and wish to move to a different institution? Take advantage of the current 30-day inter-institutional transfer application period,” the notice stated.
Eligible students have been directed to submit their requests through the KUCCPS student portal during the application period.
To apply, students should log into the portal, select the transfer application option, choose their preferred institution and state the reason for the transfer.
According to KUCCPS, applicants will be required to pay the transfer processing fee of Ksh1,000 before submitting the request using an eCitizen payment reference code.
Students have been given more time than usual to apply for a change after the transfer period was extended from two weeks to one month.
In recent remarks, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the move was intended to give learners more time to make changes where necessary.
Further, the transfer window is expected to bring relief to students and parents seeking immediate solutions for placement concerns.

In some cases, the placement of 293,869 students into degree, diploma, certificate and artisan programmes ahead of the September intake sparked dissatisfaction over allocated institutions and courses.
Some applicants questioned how KUCCPS conducted the exercise.
The agency’s official notice comes amid speculation that had been circulating online after the completion of placements last week.
KUCCPS had earlier flagged false claims that the transfer window was already open, dismissing fraudulent forms circulating in student forums that purported to facilitate transfers.
As the transfer window opens, some universities started releasing admission letters and open their admission portals.
These include Kenyatta University, Moi University, Maseno University, Kisii University and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
