TRAGIC: TWO Children Die After Falling Into Sewage Man Hole

Two children aged five and one year drowned after falling into a pit containing sewage materials in Kowuor village, Rongo, Migori County.

Police said the bodies were discovered floating in the pit on Sunday morning. 

The children had reportedly travelled from the Masara area in Suna West with their mother on Saturday to visit their grandmother.

A villager discovered the incident when they noticed a pink sandal floating in the pit. He raised the alarm, prompting members of the public to respond and retrieve the children’s bodies.

Police officers who visited and processed the scene said the bodies had no visible physical injuries.

The bodies were moved to Rosewood Mortuary pending autopsy as investigations into the incident continue.

In Nairobi, police have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified woman was found submerged in Githunguri River in Ruai.

The woman, believed to be aged between 35 and 40, was discovered by members of the public at about 9 am on Sunday along the power line in the Ruai Valley View area.

Police officers from Ruai Police Station and DCI personnel visited and processed the scene.

The woman was found submerged in the river with visible injuries to her head, prompting investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Investigators recovered several items at the scene, including a bottle of water, a beer bottle and human hair believed to be linked to the deceased.

The body was moved to the City Mortuary for preservation, identification and postmortem examination.

Elsewhere, a middle-aged man drowned while swimming in River Kuja in Nyatike, Migori County, on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Majaliwa Mwalimu.

The incident was reported to police at about 1:45 pm by Nyatike area chief Samson Onduso, who alerted authorities after the body was spotted floating in the river within Nyatike Sub-Location.

Police officers from Macalder Police Station and DCI Nyatike visited the scene and established that Mwalimu had been swimming in the river when he drowned.

The body was retrieved from the water and moved to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending postmortem examination.
