Detectives Recover Over 180 IDs From TWO Gang Members In Busia
Busia detectives arrested two suspected gang members after discovering 180 National Identification Cards with different names during an operation targeting criminal networks in Teso South, near the Uganda border.
The cops also confiscated a tear gas canister, metal bars thought to be used for housebreaking, military boots, and five cellphones.
The National Identification Cards were discovered during a search of one of the suspects’ homes after the two were apprehended in a targeted operation.
Investigators are now looking into how the 180 IDs came into the defendants’ possession and whether they were used or intended for use in illegal operations.

βThe extensive search revealed 180 National Identification Cards bearing different names, prompting investigators to probe how the vital documents came into the suspectβs possession and whether they were being used, or intended for use, in criminal activities,β DCI said on Thursday.
Among the other items recovered were a heavy metal rod and eight metal bars suspected to have been used in breaking into houses.
Detectives also seized two pairs of military boots and a tear gas canister, with all the recovered items secured as exhibits as investigations continue.

The two suspects are being held as detectives process the case ahead of their arraignment, while investigators pursue additional leads.
The DCI said the operation is also aimed at establishing the wider network linked to the suspects and identifying other individuals who may have been involved in their alleged criminal activities.
The recovery of the IDs comes months after the DCI arrested 26 people in a separate operation targeting an alleged network involved in the illegal processing and issuance of government documents in December last year.
The earlier investigation implicated civil servants, immigration clerks, local administrators, businessmen, and middlemen accused of bypassing official procedures to obtain documents, including National IDs, passports, birth certificates, and alien identification cards.
During that operation, detectives recovered filled and blank ID application forms, fingerprint-taking equipment, birth and death certificates, passports, government stamps, and other registration materials from private premises.
