Relief For Passengers As Kenya Airways Offers Free Rebooking After Aviation Strike
Kenya Airways has asked passengers affected by the aviation workers’ strike to reschedule their flights at no additional cost as the airline works to clear a backlog of disrupted flights.
The airline said Tuesday, September 1, that it had begun restoring its flight schedules after aviation workers called off their industrial action following an agreement with the government.
“Following the Air Traffic Control workers’ strike call-off this morning, our teams have been proactively working through the flight backlog to restore normal operations,” Kenya Airways said in a statement.
The strike began on Sunday, August 30, disrupting flights at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and other airports before it was called off Tuesday.
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union signed a return-to-work agreement with the Ministry of Transport, directing affected workers to resume normal duties.
Kenya Airways said passengers should expect some delays as it works to restore normal flight schedules.
“We anticipate resuming our normal scheduled operations by Wednesday, September 2, 2026,” the airline said.
The national carrier said passengers whose flights were affected can reschedule their journeys without paying an additional rebooking charge.

“Affected customers who would like to reschedule their flights may do so at no additional cost,” Kenya Airways said.
The airline advised affected passengers to check their flight status through its website or mobile app and update their contact details through the Manage Booking option.
Kenya Airways said it would send flight status notifications to affected passengers through SMS, WhatsApp and email using the contact details provided at the time of booking.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding during this period,” the airline said.
They also added that the safety of passengers and staff remained its top priority.
