Uasin Gishu Governor Nominates New Deputy After Barorot’s Resignation

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has named MCA Evans Kapkea as his deputy.

Kapkea is the MCA for Tembelio Ward and the chairman of the County Assembly’s Trade Committee.

The ward representative has a bachelor’s degree in analytical chemistry from Moi University.

His name has been forwarded to the County Assembly for review. If approved, he will succeed former Deputy Governor John Barorot, who has resigned.

How The Search Worked

Bii stated that the name would be forwarded to the county assembly for vetting shortly.

“In fact, it will be in a few days and I will nominate someone from just around here,” he said.

Bii stated he would nominate someone capable of doing a good job, such as former DG Barorot.

According to sources, former Moiben MP Sila Tiren tops the list of those being considered.

Other candidates being considered include former MCA Pius Kigen, Engineer Anthony Chelimo, and current Uasin Gishu Trade executive Martha Cheruto.

The governor is also planning to reshuffle his team.

Uasin Gishu is a cosmopolitan county whose residents are predominantly Kalenjin, particularly the Nandi and Keiyo subtribes.

Since the tenure of former Governor Jackson Mandago, there has been a balance of power, with the Nandi taking the top seat and someone from the Keiyo sub-tribe serving as deputy.

Mandago was from the Nandi community, and his deputy for ten years was former DG Daniel Chemno from the Keiyo.

Bii is from the Nandi community, whereas Barorot is from the Keiyo side.

As is customary, all those under consideration are from the Keiyo side, and the nominee will most likely be someone who will help Bii re-elect in the next election.
