ROCHA MADZAO: UoN Student Leader Still Missing After Abduction
Rocha Madzao, President of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA), is reportedly missing, and the search has yet to yield any results.
Madzao was reportedly kidnapped by unknown people on his way home Friday night.
According to one of the students, Madzao’s last contact with the UNSA chief of staff was around 9 p.m.
Yesterday an unidentified group tried to apprehend UoN president near hall 9. Comrades opposed the attempt. Later, the president left for home at around 8 p.m. He messaged me at 9:18 p.m. saying he was in a Matatu heading home. At 9:35 p.m., he phoned me, asking

“He called his personal assistant who is the chief of staff saying that he was being harassed by some men and after that, his phone went off,” he said.
“The call abruptly ended after 23 seconds before he could name the location,” he added.
UNSA is now seeking information on his whereabouts, stating that it has not received any communication from him since then.
“If you have any details on Rocha’s whereabouts, please inform us,” a post circulated reads.
Earlier in the day Friday, an unidentified group allegedly attempted but failed to arrest him near Hall 9.

This follows his address in which he issued a one-week deadline to the government to abandon the new education funding model.
“We are giving the government one week to scrap off this model, failure to which we shall demonstrate on September 2,” he said.
He added, “I am imploring all students and citizens of goodwill to join us with good dancing shoes and vuvuzelas as we defend our right to free basic and compulsory education to every child.”
On Saturday, a group of students blocked the Uhuru Highway in protest before police dispersed them.
Ramesh Saxena, Secretary General of UNSA, issued a “call to action” that prompted the protest.
“We all know that a university president missing for even 10 minutes is not a waiting matter,” said Saxena.
“I urged all student leaders across the country to stand in solidarity until the UNSA president is found.”
