KUPPET Has Called off Strike After TSC Agreement

Kuppet called off the teachers’ strike after reaching an agreement with the Teachers Service Commission.

The agreement comes as the strike reached its second week on Monday, forcing several schools to send students home.

The agreement to call off the strike was struck Monday evening, with TSC ensuring that no teachers would be victimized.

Akelo Misori, secretary general of Kuppet, stated that the remaining issues will be handled during the strike suspension.

“From the union side, we suspend the strike and ask all our teachers to go back to class pending the speedy resolution of these matters as already agreed on between us and the commission,” he said.

Misori stated that further communication will be made by the union based on the outcome of a court decision expected on Thursday.

The walkout has halted learning in nearly all public secondary schools across the country and threatens to disrupt preparations for this year’s Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education tests.

Last Monday, the Kenya National Union of Teachers called off its strike, allowing primary schools across the country to operate normally.

This comes after TSC agreed to carry out the delayed Phase Two of the 2021-25 CBA after the government released Sh15 billion.

The funds would be used to support teachers’ compensation increases beginning July 1 as well as their medical insurance.

Teachers also requested that the employer refund all debts and NSSF deductions to the statutory organizations.

They say that since June 2024, the funds have been deducted but not transferred to third-party agents, including banks.
