Ruto Tells Security Officers To Obey, Submit to the Rule of Law

On Thursday, President William Ruto urged all security officers, regardless of rank, to uphold the rule of law.

The Head of State, speaking at a ceremony to install Inspector General Douglas Kanja as Inspector General of Police at State House in Nairobi, stated that upholding the rule of law was the only way to ensure the country’s democracy.

The President stated that the ability of leaders to follow the law was the most important principle for a nation’s stability and progress.

“To secure our democracy, the rule of law is the bedrock. All of us irrespective of who we are, the offices we occupy, our status must respect and submit to the rule of law,” Ruto stated.

“It is a cardinal principle for us to secure our democracy for us to remain a stable and progressive democracy.”

In equal measure, President Ruto called on Kenyans to support all security agencies in their job of ensuring the safety of all the people.

“We need to remind ourselves that both security and stability of our country is necessary for our development and stability and it calls on all of us to support our national police service,” Ruto remarked.

President Ruto’s comments came a day after he urged the National Police Service and the judiciary to collaborate for the benefit of Kenyans.

Speaking at the launch of Police and Kenya Prisons Reforms in Nairobi, Ruto stated that a squabble between the two institutions should be avoided because it would jeopardize service delivery.

The President stated that, despite the fact that both institutions are independent government agencies, they must coexist peacefully.

“I am acutely aware that the National Police Service is an independent and so is the Judiciary but ultimately we have one master, the people of Kenya,” Ruto said.

“I want to ask all of us to work together selflessly for the good of the nation. We must make sure we work together towards serving Kenyans,” he added.
