Uhuru Kenyatta Appointed To Africa’s Prestigious Board Alongside PLO Lumumba
Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has been appointed to the prestigious board of the Tana High-Level Forum on African Security.
This new position cements his growing influence on the continent, following his recent work on high-level missions for the African Union.
In March 2024, Kenyatta was officially welcomed as a board member of the Tana Forum, Africa’s leading platform for peace and security.
The announcement, made on September 16, is a strategic move in which Kenyatta brings his extensive expertise and diplomatic experience to the organization.
The Forum brings together leaders from diverse sectors to develop African-led solutions to the continent’s security challenges.
Uhuru’s appointment is viewed as a significant addition to the Forum’s leadership.
His role will be to provide strategic oversight and shape the broad agenda for the Forum’s annual discussions, which will be held in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, on October 25-27, 2024.
The forum will focus on the theme “Africa in an Evolving Global Order.”
This new position demonstrates Uhuru’s continued commitment to pan-Africanism and the advancement of peace and security throughout Africa.
After two terms as President of Kenya, Uhuru’s leadership extended beyond the country’s borders.
His experience will now help guide Tana Forum’s mission to encourage African leaders to take ownership of security solutions.
Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo chairs the Tana Forum, which includes a group of influential African leaders.
Uhuru will serve alongside notable figures such as former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, former Malawian President Joyce Banda, and Professor Patrick Lumumba.
The board members’ collective expertise is expected to advance the Forum’s mission, ensuring that African peace and security initiatives remain top priorities.
Uhuru’s new role comes after he led the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) for South Africa’s 2024 general elections.
Kenyatta was appointed by the African Union Commission to lead a team of 60 election experts, observers, and civil society representatives who oversaw the election process.
