Kenyan Senator Nominated In Time’s 100 Next Rankings
Senator Crystal Asige, who was nominated, has received international recognition after being named one of the world’s top 100 emerging leaders for 2024 by TIME.
Asige defied the odds by being nominated for the top 100 out of thousands of outstanding names from around the world.
The nominated senator, who also sings, expressed her delight on social media, describing her latest feat as ‘wild’.
“I have no clue how my work travelled around the world and landed in front of TIME, but naming me in their 2024TIME100NEXT list of influential leaders shaping the future of their fields and defining the next generation of leadership is wild, and you are all right at the centre of this acknowledgement,” she shared on X.

The TIME100 Next honours individuals who have made significant contributions in fields such as business, politics, activism, and entertainment.
Asige was nominated by the United Nations (U.N.) Sustainable Development Goal Advocate Eddie Ndopu, described her as an incredible individual who advocates for the rights of people living with disabilities.
“A growing cohort of brilliant and badass African leaders with disabilities taking up space on the world stage. Senator Asige’s life is a master class in embracing the unexpected,” Ndopu said in a statement.
“With every twist and turn, she has charted a course that defies categorization. Since taking office, she has helped pass bills to uplift people with disabilities, including a tax break for parents and caregivers of kids with disabilities, and new support for Kenyan sign language.”

Notably, more than half of the nominees on the 2024 list were female.
