CS Duale Orders Notorious Kilimani Nightclub To Be Closed

On Sunday, Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale ordered the closure of Nairobi’s Fay Bistro in Kilimani due to noise violations.

The CS also announced that he had directed the Director General of the National Environment Management Agency (NEMA), along with the agency’s police officers, to visit the club and enforce the ban.

“I have ordered the immediate closure of Fay’s Bistro club in Kilimani, Nairobi, for noise violations. The NEMA Director General, accompanied by the NEMA Police unit, is on-site to enforce the closure,” Duale stated.

At the same time, the CS issued a warning to other clubs in residential areas that were known for noise disturbances. He also stated that their impunity would not be tolerated.

“Let this serve as a warning to all clubs operating in residential areas: anyone who continues to play loud music will face the same consequences. This impunity cannot be tolerated!” Duale warned.

For the majority of Sunday, the club was the subject of heated social media debates.

This comes after Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geofrey Moisira was stopped by an alleged owner when he attempted to intervene following an uproar from nearby residents.

According to Moisira, residents in the area had complained to his office about the noise pollution caused by the club, which made it difficult for them to sleep at night.

“These neighbors have been complaining and I decided to come in person to witness for myself. If you check it’s already midnight and the decibels are almost 80, that is too loud,” Moisiria shared.

“The owner has been saying that we are against them, let’s go tell them to switch off so that the neighbors can sleep,” he added.

However, when he arrived at the club’s entrance, he was met by a hostile lady who refused to listen to him or let him in, claiming that the County Officer was wrong to record his entry.

Mosiria has recently been embroiled in push-and-pull battles with City club owners and churches, particularly those in residential areas that play loud music while people are sleeping.

Duale’s decision to order the club’s closure may raise concerns that he is interfering with the county government’s functions.
