8 Teachers Nabbed With KCSE Chemistry Exam Paper In Homa Bay

On Monday, November 4, authorities detained eight teachers from Pala Masogo Secondary School in Homa Bay Sub-County for examination malpractice.

The teachers were arrested after allegedly making photocopies of the chemistry exam papers on school grounds.

However, it has since been determined that the exam paper photocopied by the teachers was intended for a student who was hospitalized.

Among those arrested are some of the school’s teachers, the examination center manager, and invigilators.

According to Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Emmanuel Kiplagat, authorities have since collected evidence, including the copied exam papers, which will be used against the suspects.

This latest incident highlighted the Ministry of Education’s ongoing struggle with national examination malpractice, which has become increasingly common in recent years among both students and invigilators.

On Monday, November 4, senior government officials from various ministries, led by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, were deployed to oversee the Form Four national examinations.

As 965,000 candidates take their exams, Ogamba issued a stern warning to anyone planning to commit examination malpractice, warning that they would face the full force of the law.

“Anybody found to be involved in exams malpractice will be arrested and prosecuted and there is no exception,” Ogamba asserted on Monday.

This year’s KCSE exams were not without incidents. A 19-year-old candidate died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning at Ebubere Secondary School in Mumias East Constituency, leaving a family devastated.

The death shocked the student’s family because he had reportedly left his home in good health earlier that morning to attend his exams.

Another student died the day before, in Tigania West, Meru County, just hours before taking his first exam.
