Kenyan-American Wins Congress Seat In Minnesota, USA
Huldah Momanyi Hiltsley, a Kenyan-American, made history in the United States by successfully running for a House of Representatives seat in Minnesota.
Huldah, a Democrat, became the state’s first Kenyan legislator after defeating Republican candidate Brad Olson in the Minnesota House District 38A race.
Her victory was decisive, with 65% of the vote to Olson’s 35% in a race that was expected to be close.
Online videos showed what Huldah’s victory meant for her supporters, who eagerly awaited the results at a watch party in Brooklyn Park on Tuesday night.

Huldah had a strong chance of victory because she was contesting in District 38A, which is demographically diverse.
According to US Census Bureau data, more than 30% of the population is black, with Asian and Hispanic communities accounting for 18% and 9% of the population of Senate District 38 A, respectively.
Speaking after the victory, Huldah expressed her gratitude while acknowledging that her feat was almost impossible.
“I am excited, I cannot believe it. It is history in the making. We worked so hard to get to this point,” she said.
Huldah noted that this victory was only the first step towards building a community that appreciated people from varying heritages.
She added: “We have an opportunity here to build bridges and foster a community that celebrates everyone’s heritage and potential.”
I am so honored to have ED Nevada Littlewolf of @womenwinning and team to come to our watch party!

The mother of two has had an incredible journey. Momanyi was born in Nyamira County, Kenya, and her family moved to the United States in the 1990s, several years after her father had migrated.
After nearly two decades in America, Momanyi decided to enter politics. One of her early ambitions was to become Minnesota’s first black woman senator.
Throughout her political career, the 39-year-old has taken a pragmatic approach to issues and has consistently advocated for legislation that prioritizes the well-being of all constituents, regardless of background or socioeconomic status.
Another heartwarming victory occurred in Minnesota, where Ilhan Omar easily defeated Republican Dalia Al-Aqidi to win her fourth term in the 5th District.
Omar, a Somali refugee, is one of only three Muslims in Congress.
Along with her colleague and fellow Democrat Rashida Tlaib, the women are part of an informal group of lawmakers known as “The Squad,” which consists of progressive members of Congress.
