Fire Razes Down Embattled Minister’s Offices
On Tuesday, November 12, a fire broke out inside the Kilifi County offices, halting operations.
Speaking to the press, County Department for Water and Environment Committee Member (CECM) Omar Said stated that the authorities were in the office having a meeting when they heard shouts from individuals alerting them to a fire breaking out at the building’s extension.
“Fire has engulfed one of our offices of KIMAWASCO and at the time we were in having a meeting before we heard that there was a fire that had caught the building,” Omar stated.
“We immediately alerted the fire department who responded within the shortest period, we want to thank them for that even though we still do not know what caused the fire,” he added.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to the press accused the county government, stating that it had previously overlooked critical safety procedures.

They also stated that for some time, the county authorities resorted to burning waste in the town center without considering the consequences.
The homeowners also complained that county officials had previously hounded them for burning litter and wondered what changed after the epidemic was connected to improper waste disposal within the compound.
“At the start, if you were caught burning garbage anywhere near the town, enforcement officers would be on your case,’‘ one of the residents told the media.
“Now we are wondering why a big department like this could do the same burning of tires to a point that it causes a fire.”

The homeowners claimed that the fire could have been caused by burning tires, an allegation to which the county has yet to answer.
Residents hurried to the scene as a massive smoke cloud engulfed the County Department of Water, according to videos uploaded online.
Despite the allegations, County Department for Water and Environment Committee Member (CECM) Omar Said stated that the direct cause of the fire had still to be determined.
He stated that the County has instead begun investigations into the incident while adding that his office was nearly razed down by the fire.
