Martha Karua Gives Advise To Opposition-Leaning Leaders Eyeing Presidency

Martha Karua, leader of the Narc-Kenya Party, has revealed ambitions to run for president again 14 years after failing to win the first time.

Martha Karua stood for president in 2013, but lost to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, coming sixth out of eight candidates.

Karua has stated her intention to run for president again in the 2027 general elections, this time with fresh enthusiasm.

If elected, she will become Kenya’s third female presidential candidate, following Charity Ngilu and Wangari Maathai in the 1997 elections.

During a roundtable discussion at K24 on Monday, November 25, Karua stated that she believes she has the qualities necessary to be the country’s Head of State.

“I made it as a running mate before. And I will definitely make it as an aspirant. I will toss myself to the battlefield and compete, then we will let Kenyans decide who their president will be,” Karua asserted.

The party leader went on to say that Kenyans should not expect her to be anyone’s running mate this time around.

She was responding to a query about whether she would run for president like her colleague, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and Busia senator Okiya Omtatah, who had hinted at doing so.

Karua has urged all opposition presidential candidates to band together and vote for the finest candidate to represent their parties.

“I would advise that all leaders leaning towards the opposition to establish themselves, then in the end we join forces and vote for the best candidate to represent all of us in the bid,” Karua said.

Martha Karua has fostered an atmosphere of constructive competition among opposition politicians vying for the presidency.

She believes that the duty of running for president should not be taken lightly.

This announcement comes just three days after Busia Senator and activist Okiya Omtatah hinted about running for president.

Omtatah has announced the formation of a 10-member committee to investigate his potential candidacy.

As the country prepares for elections in less than three years, Kalonzo Musyoka, Okiya Omtatah, and now Martha Karua have all announced official bids to challenge President William Ruto for the top job.
