‘Where Is Gachagua Now?’ – Raila Odinga Brags How He Helped Oust Former DP
ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga fired a devastating farewell shot at embattled former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua weeks after his impeachment, as the conflict between the two political rivals heated up.
Raila used his opportunity to address an audience in Vihiga during ODM Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi’s Thanksgiving Ceremony to publicly discuss Gachagua’s problems, especially the former DP’s impeachment.
Using his usual riddles, the African Union Commission chair contender discussed ‘traps’ reportedly set up by Gachagua in government to keep Raila from collaborating with Kenya’s Kwanza regime.
“A trap was set up to catch a mouse, but the one who set up the trap was the one who went down,” Raila said.
“He went to State House talking about how he was setting up a trap for Baba. He said there would be no handshake, no coalition government (Nusu mkate). Where is Gachagua now?” Raila added amid cheers from the crowd.

The former Prime Minister was referring to Gachagua’s controversial comments in the past, in which the former Deputy President claimed he had set up measures to prevent Raila from entering government after finishing second in the 2022 Presidential elections.
In August 2024, Gachagua said his ‘traps’ were so good that the first time Ruto met Raila after the elections, he was out of the country, limiting the ODM Party leader’s power.
“My boss and I had agreed we set up traps so that Raila does not join the government through the backdoor, I would check the traps every morning and evening,” Gachagua claimed.
Once President Ruto and his erstwhile foe Raila reconciled their political differences, Gachagua said he had to back down from his efforts to prevent the ODM Party Leader from accessing the administration.

“My traps were working very well because even that time they decided to meet, they did so in Uganda as they watched Museveni’s big horned cattle,” Gachagua told a vernacular radio station in August.
Since his impeachment, Gachagua’s political resolve has been tested multiple times.
In the most recent instance, his entourage was assaulted with plastic chairs by goons who disrupted a burial in Limuru, aiming to silence Gachagua’s attempts to address the audience.
The attack occurred a week after Gachagua announced plans for a major revolution in January 2025.
