
Police Intelligence Report Reveals Rights Groups, Politicians Planning June 25 Protests
The anticipated second anniversary of the June 25 Gen Z Memorial demonstrations is underway.
A police intelligence report has detailed alleged mobilisation activities planned for the day.
The report cites the involvement of sitting politicians, political aspirants, youth activists and civil society actors across several counties.
The report alleges that activists will mobilise youths for demonstrations that could affect movement within key commercial areas and access points into the Nairobi Central Business District.
With key opposition leaders joining families of victims of the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests in a procession to Parliament.
The report also cites civil society organisations, including Haki Africa and Muhuri, and human rights activists as being involved in preparations for a protest within Kisumu CBD.
The groups plans to provide participants with protest materials such as banners, flyers and drinking water.
It states that they are allegedly supported through funding from the Siaya Governor, who had earlier marched to Parliament to petition and notify the Inspector General of Police of a planned peaceful nationwide march on June 18.
Additionally, the report mentions the Vihiga Senator, as well as a Member of the County Assembly and a Member of Parliament engaged in mobilisation activities.
An MCA aspirant and other activists have also been identified in connection with planned marches from Ebusakami to Luanda Town.
Kiambu County student leaders have also been linked to mobilisation of university students, with reported plans to barricade Thika-Garissa Highway and Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
In Nakuru, the report identifies MCA and MP aspirants, activists and a blogger leading alleged plans to vandalise Bondeni phase 2 affordable housing site.
In addition to businesses within the CBD, County Government offices and Nakuru East offices under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF).
The report also mentions the involvement of a reported Kamagera gang leader, alleging links to a group that operates at bus stages.
They are accused of posing as conductors and stage attendants before harassing operators and demanding levies from Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).

Further, the report mentions mobilisation in Likii and Majengo areas led by a Laikipia MCA, MP aspirant and local activists, with activity expected in Nanyuki and Nyahururu towns.
Free Kenya Movement members and activists in Kajiado have been linked to mobilisation activities in Kitengela Town, including planned commemorative activities.
A Narok County MCA, MP aspirant and Taxi Operators Chairperson have also been linked to mobilisation efforts.
The day has already seen disruptions to normal activities, with key roads and highways affected by police barricades, while transport has faced delays as police conduct vehicle checks and screenings in various areas.
The developments come despite reassurances from government officials that peaceful demonstrations would be allowed alongside normal operations at businesses and schools.
However, some commuters reported difficulties accessing their destinations and being left stranded due to disruptions.
