‘I Avoided Launching “Questionable” Projects!’ – Gachagua Reveals Why He Fell Out With Ruto

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua revealed critical details on Sunday, December 2, about how he used to avoid President William Ruto during the launch and implementation of government programs that he did not approve.

Speaking in a live interview on NTV on Sunday evening, Gachagua said that some of Ruto’s projects caused him to create ways to avoid being seen as a part of.

He was responding to corruption allegations in the administration, notably while he was a DP, as well as the unpopularity of his position.

Gachagua identified the President’s Affordable Housing project as one of the unfavorable sites where he avoided his boss and mingled with the public whenever there was a state function on the same.

“The President was accusing me of not going to launch houses. I told him that people are not interested in these houses. These citizens are the ones who have employed us on this job and they are not interested,” he added.

Interestingly, Gachagua stated that he would flee from the President during an event to hear the public’s opinion on the same idea.

To do this, he stated that he would determine how long Ruto would take to deliver a speech at the launch before launching his concealment methods.

“Many times I would go with the President and he would start speaking on many issues for between 15 to 30 minutes depending on the mood he is in and depending on the response of the crowd,” added Gachagua.

“I would gauge how long he would take while speaking because I had studied him. During this time I would go and mix with the people. They would clearly say they are not interested.”

Additionally, the former DP said that most of his advising suggestions to the President were never taken seriously, owing to perceived disagreements between him and his employer.

According to Gachagua, his refusal to comply with some of the government’s directives resulted in a rift between him and his employer.

This came from a plethora of differences that primarily occurred behind the scenes, the majority of which were essentially hidden from the public.

He went on to say that he did his best to defend the government against the wrongdoings, but things spiraled out of control when it became evident to the state that he could not justify corruption.

“I defended many things but when it came to issues of corruption and the misuse of public funds I could not defend them,” Gachagua insisted.

Furthermore, the former DP and one-time legislator criticized Ruto’s policies and projects, such as the Social Health Authority (SHA) and affordable housing projects, which they worked on together while in office.

“Kenyans need to speak out, Ksh104bn is not Ksh104, it’s serious money and experts have told me that it was possible to improve the existing system that was in the National Hospital Insurance Fund(NHIF) at a cost of between Ksh700 million to Ksh800 million,” Gachagua stated.
