Rowdy Vandal Shot Dead After Confrontation With Police In Thika

A suspect was shot and died while attempting to vandalize a public water tank with a group of accomplices in the settlement of Thika, Kiambu County.

According to authorities, the crime occurred on Sunday morning, December 15, in the Athena neighborhood. Authorities were notified of a group of roughly five people demolishing a water tank.

Officers on patrol responded and apprehended the suspects in the act. When told to surrender, the group allegedly moved toward the officers, holding crude weapons.

This forced an officer to fire three warning rounds with an alibi rifle.

During the confrontation, one suspect was fatally shot, while the others escaped.

Police recovered tools used in the vandalism, such as two spanners, nuts, and bolts.

The deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary for identification and autopsy. Meanwhile, the search for the remaining conspirators continues.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was given five days on Friday to detain five individuals in connection with the kidnapping and defilement of a child.

DCI detective Corporal Irene Karegi requested 14 days to finish the investigation.

Karegi informed senior Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe that they required extra time to undertake an age assessment on the girl and a DNA test to determine whether she had been defiled by the time she was rescued.

“This Honorable Court be pleased to issue custodial orders that the Respondent herein be detained for a period of fourteen (14) days from today at Kilimani Police Station in  Nairobi to allow the applicant and or any other police officer and investigator(s), attached to it complete investigations on cases of defilement contrary to section 8(1)(3) of sexual offences act No.3 of 2006 and kidnapping contrary to section 257 of the penal code Cap 63 laws of Kenya,” read the court documents.

According to police, the individuals are accused of detaining the child in an apartment in Nairobi West.

The kid went missing on December 7. The minor’s mother stated that she attempted to track down her daughter through acquaintances but was unable to.

“When she couldn’t find her, she decided to seek police assistance,” police said.

Police investigations led to the juvenile’s rescue at the apartment, where cops discovered her with the accused.
