Leaders Join Ruto To Mourn Speaker Wetang’ula’s Mother

President William Ruto has joined the grieving of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s mother.

The Head of State mourned Mama Anne Nanyama as a “progressive, responsible and caring woman who raised upright children.”

“Our condolences to Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Mheshimiwa Timothy Wanyonyi for the loss of your dear mother,” said President Ruto in a post on X.

“Anne Nanyama was a progressive, responsible and caring woman who raised upright children. May God grant comfort to the family, friends and the people of Bungoma at this sad time. Rest in Peace, Mayi Nanyama.”

Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, who was also the mother of Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, died on Friday.

Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka also praised the late family matriarch as a “remarkable community mobiliser and mentor.”

Lusaka offered condolence condolences to Wanyonyi and Wetang’ula.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi lamented Mama Nanyama, saying her death has plunged the Kenyan Parliament, and indeed the entire country, into great sadness.

Kanduyi MP John Makali expressed his sympathies to the family, saying that the late Mama Anna had a strong moral basis and produced two leaders in the country.

Wetang’ula was appointed Speaker of the National Assembly in 2022. He was the Minister of Trade till he was elected Bungoma Senator in 2013.

The Ford-Kenya Party leader was re-elected in 2017 and 2022 but quit to become speaker. His brother, Timothy Wanyonyi, was elected Westlands MP in 2017 and will run for re-election in 2022.

He has expressed interest in running for governor of Nairobi in 2027.
