Police Officer Shoots 30 Rounds Inside Machakos Nightclub Over Lover

A night of frivolous delight and merry-making took an unexpected turn when a police officer opened fire inside a nightclub to protest a love triangle involving his lover.

Merrymakers at the Imperial Lounge in Yatta, Machakos County, had to flee for their lives after a police officer shot 30 rounds of ammunition from an AK-47 weapon in front of his superiors following a love disagreement in the early hours of Friday.

Prior to the event, the officer had been accused of causing significant disruption, forcing staff at the joint to report the situation to authorities.

However, according to a police report, the officer had already left the premises after learning that officers from Matuu Police Station had been sent to restore law and order.

The officers were unaware that their colleague had gone to the station and picked up an AK-47 rifle. The firearm had been assigned to an officer on patrol.

The police then returned to the entertainment joint, armed and ready to wreak dread on a man he accused of ‘stealing’ his girlfriend.

Fortunately for the man and other revellers, the enraged officer was accompanied by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and other police who appeared to feel that the situation was going to spiral out of control.

Upon arrival at the joint, the officers approached their enraged colleague from behind in an attempt to disarm him, resulting in the officer shooting all 30 rounds from the gun.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the incident, and the police officers properly disarmed and controlled their counterparts.

The officer was then arrested by his colleagues and hauled back to Matuu police station, where he was detained for additional questioning.

Currently, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)-Yatta is undertaking investigations to uncover the underlying cause of the incident.

The latest event comes as the police department is under growing scrutiny for their alleged involvement in abductions across the country.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has often dismissed such claims, but popular opinion and the reality on the ground present a different picture.
