‘Ruto’s Silence On Abductions Confirms His Approval!’ – Gachagua Says

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua believes that President William Ruto’s silence on the recent abductions is a clear sign that they are taking place with his approval.

Speaking in Nyeri on Friday, Gachagua emphasized that President Ruto must accept full responsibility and solve the matter, or else the instances will go unchecked.

“To remain silent or inactive is to suggest that these actions are being carried out with his knowledge and consent,” he said.

Gachagua further said that it is hard to ignore the fact that the victims are only related by their criticism of President Ruto and his government and that the state cannot afford to remove itself from the vice.

He accused the police force of being complacent in tackling the grave situation, stating that it is inconsistent for the police to deny their awareness of abduction cases despite sufficient evidence.

“How can the police still be in denial when there are witnesses, CCTV footage and countless grieving families coming forward,” he noted.

“Our security agencies are either complicit or profoundly incompetent and unable to take decisive action on one of the most significant crises the country has faced under this administration.”

He also accused the government of victimizing him after he criticized the National Intelligence Service (NIS) for being incapacitated and a threat to national security.

“When I raised concern about the dysfunctionality of the NIS I was accused of being insubordinate. However the events of the recent months have regrettably validated my position,” Gachagua noted.

He was referring to comments he made about the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General, Noordin Haji, blaming him for the anti-government rallies in June that resulted in lives and devastation.

Gachagua urged that Haji stand down from his post to make space for a more capable Director General.

The remarks sparked a lawsuit against him, ostensibly motivating the decision to remove him from office.

According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), 29 people have been reported missing as a result of abduction since June.

The commission noted that 13 abduction incidents had been reported in the last three months, bringing the total to 82 since June 2024.
