The bodies of two young Kenyans were discovered on Saturday, January 4, raising concerns about the growing trend of forced disappearances. The two were discovered in Nairobi and Kiambu counties.

Residents in Kiambu discovered a young man’s naked body by the roadside in Kawaida, near Banana, and notified the authorities.

The body was discovered wrapped in a shawl, with his garments placed several metres away from his nude body.

According to Hussein Khalid, Executive Director of the human rights organization Vocal Africa, the deceased’s relatives positively identified him as 27-year-old John Muchiri Muthoni.

Khalid reported that the family lost communication with Muchiri after he went less than 24 hours ago, on Friday evening, January 3, around 3 p.m.

The activist said that the family heard the tragic news of their loved one’s discovery when his girlfriend informed them that they had received a call from unknown folks instructing him to go fetch her lover’s body.

“We are working with the family and authorities in organising a postmortem for the body found by the roadside in Kawaida. The body has been moved to Kihara Sub-County Hospital Mortuary,” Khalid stated.

“The deceased has been identified as John Muchiri Muthoni, aged 27. He was last seen on Friday, January 3, 2025, at around 3pm. His girlfriend reportedly received a call from an unknown number, directing her to find his body by the roadside,” he added.

In another terrible occurrence, the body of 26-year-old Ian Singoe, who had been missing for some time, was found in Mwiki, Nairobi.

According to a friend who was given permission by the late Singoe’s family to share the information, the young man was last seen on December 31 at Mwiki, Kasarani.

“With permission from the family, I wish to communicate that the body of Ian Singoe has been found and positively identified,” the close family friend shared.

“Plans are underway to transfer the body to the mortuary as police investigations begin.”
