Controversial MPs Demand Term Extension For Ruto After ‘Manufacture’ Of Moi’s 24-Year Rule
Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has threatened to extend President William Ruto’s term due to rising criticism of the Head of State.
The contentious legislator slammed people who criticize Ruto, stating that if they continue to threaten him, they can extend his term in office.
On Sunday, January 5, he spoke in an interdenominational service in Kerio Valley, Elgeyo Marakwet, which was attended by the President.
Kamket, recalling previous President Daniel Moi’s 24-year tenure, stated that they understand what it takes to persuade Ruto to serve beyond the term limitations.

“I come from that county, Baringo County, where we know what the number 24 years means. We are the ones who know how to manufacture for the President to be on the seat for 24 years,” Kamket asserted.
According to the congressman, several leaders have come out to frighten the President, which he believes would push them to pursue the term extension course.
“If they play, if they play, we can even tell you to go for some additional time,” he said.
Adding, “There are some funny characters who are trying to disturb this government, and we want to thank Kimani Ichung’wah for speaking for us recently.”
However, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who is widely regarded as an insider to the President, disputed Kamket’s statements, claiming that the notion was illegal.
According to Sudi, Ruto will leave office at the end of his second term (if reelected) without forcing himself on Kenyans.

“Kamket, we are people who honour the Constitution. President Ruto, you have eight years remaining on your term for you to exit the office and go home,” Sudi asserted.
This is not the first time a Rift Valley leader has proposed expanding presidential term limits.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei had already introduced a measure in the Senate requesting such an extension.
In April, the Senator introduced a proposal that would increase the presidential term from five years to seven.
However, the plan suffered a setback when it was rejected by the Senate last November.
Political analysts consider discussions over extending presidential term limits primarily as a technique for gauging public reaction.
