‘Use social media responsibly!’ – Wiper Governor Tells Gen Z

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has made a sincere appeal to Generation Z, advising them to refrain from using insults when voicing their concerns to the government.

The governor highlighted that, while it is completely fine for Gen Z to express their concerns, they must do so in a respectful manner.

On Sunday, she spoke at a church service at Mary Mount Catholic Parish in Lukenya.

The governor’s words were in response to the recent kidnapping of four young people from her county who were kidnapped for criticizing the administration.

She revealed that the four individuals were seized from the Mlolongo area and demanded that their abductors release them unconditionally.

Ndeti decried the act of kidnapping and holding the youngsters, emphasizing that if they were guilty of any offense, they should face justice rather than being held illegally.

She noted that court processes could prevent Gen Zs from making harsh criticisms of the administration.

Hapa kwangu mimi kuna watoto wanne wamechukuliwa hapa. Mimi nauliza hao watoto waachiliwe. Na kama wako na makosa, wapelekwe kortini. Ukipeleka kortini, hiyo kitu inamshtua, hatarudia,” she said.

Governor Ndeti explained that her objective was not to quiet Generation Z, but rather to encourage them to adjust their approach when addressing issues.

She asked them to continue to speak up against injustices while remaining courteous.

Sisi tunawaambia watoto wetu msiogope. Say what you feel is hurting you. Just say it in the right way. Usitukane mtu; usiambie mtu vibaya. Kama tumekosea, mnasema hapa mmetupeleka vibaya, sisi hatutaki,” she advised.

The governor also used the opportunity to caution a group of leaders around the country who she alleged were instigating the youth with divisive and damaging words.

RELEASE THE MLOLONGO 4 ABDUCTEES. The negative impact of the detrimental remarks by some of our leaders is reverberating negatively among our children. I want to remind my fellow leaders and our young people that social media is a double edged sword that we can use to build our future or destroy it; let us use social media responsibly. And unto our young people, DO NOT BE AFRAID to exercise your freedom of expression but exercise it in the right way. I am calling for the immediate release of the Mlolongo 4 abductees. Whoever is holding them, release them and let them be charged in a court of law.
