Landslides Hit Parts Of Kiambu County With Several Feared Buried

A landslide at the Kimende escarpments in Kiambu County is reported to have killed several persons.

According to reports, the landslide occurred after a significant rain that fell in the area for much of last week. 

While confirming the occurrence, the Kenya Red Cross Society announced that a rescue team had been dispatched to the area.

 “A landslide has occurred in the Kimende Escarpments of Kiambu County. Several people are believed to be trapped,” Kenya Red Cross announced.

“The Red Cross Action Team is en route to the scene.”

The disaster is alleged to have occurred on Tuesday evening at about 7 p.m. when homes near the escarpments were hit by falling chunks of soil.

A chunk of the victims could be heard crying for aid in heartbreaking footage seen by AfricasNow, even as residents gathered to track them down.

Meanwhile, the precise number of victims in the disaster has yet to be verified, as rescue attempts continue.

Following the incident, the area was sealed off and designated as a risk zone.

Motorists and other road users using the Kimende-Matathia road were advised to seek alternate routes.
