DP Gachagua Denies Reports Of Ksh2.6billion For Karen Residence Renovation

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua denied reports on Thursday that his office has been granted Ksh2.6 billion for the fiscal year 2024/2025.

In a message acquired by AfricasNow, the Deputy President observed that stories from a segment of the media contradicted the actual data requested by his office from the National Treasury.

According to the DP, he simply sought Ksh300 million for renovations to his Harambee House Annex Office in Nairobi and his second official residence in Mombasa.

Similarly, Gachagua claimed that his office needed Ksh100 million to facilitate the procurement of new vehicles.

The DP remarked that for the past ten years, the Deputy President’s office has relied primarily on old and refurbished vehicles for service delivery.

While defending the Ksh100 million request for cars, Gachagua argued that the old cars were expensive to maintain, which impacted his work.

Furthermore, the Harambee House Annex Office and Mombasa Residence have been neglected for the past 15 years, compromising important areas of habitability, safety, and security.

“The misrepresentation of facts and figures negates objectivity. The facts are captured in the Hansard, which is a public document,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua’s statement comes just a day after news surfaced about the deputy president’s extravagant budget request for office renovations.

According to sources, the DP wanted a Ksh2.6 billion budget for his office in documents filed with the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs.

According to the supposed report, a significant portion of the money would be used to renovate Harambee House and his Mombasa office.

According to the flagged report, the office planned to spend Ksh460 million and Ksh660 million of the purported Ksh2.6 billion to repair the Harambee Annex and Karen homes, respectively.
