Govt Announces Saturday For Passport Collection At The Nairobi Office
Kenyans who filed for passports in Nairobi and received notification to obtain their documents can do so this Saturday at the Immigration offices at Nyayo House.
This is according to the State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services, which has declared that the Nairobi office would be open tomorrow(18/05/2024) from 9a.m. to 1p.m.
“To expedite the collection of passports, our Nairobi office will be open on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 9am to 1pm,” said the Immigration Department in the notice.
“Applicants who applied for passports in Nairobi and have received notifications to collect their passports are encouraged to take advantage of the extended service.”
The development is in reaction to the repeated issues that passport applicants have faced over the last three years.
On Wednesday, the National Assembly’s Committee on National Administration and Internal Security called for new passport applications to be handled within three days.
The MPs, led by Committee Chair and Narok West MP Gabriel Tongoyo, advocated for the creation of additional immigration offices across the country in order to expedite passport applications.
Currently, there are just eight immigration offices across the country, forcing many Kenyans to travel long distances to apply for crucial travel documents.
“With adequate resourcing, targeting a maximum of three days for applicants to be issued with passports is realistic. This should be feasible, especially with the opening of more offices in other parts of the country,” Tongoyo said then.
