List Of Counties Which Will Experience Very Cold Nights And Very Hot Days
The Kenya Meteorological Department cautioned Kenyans on Friday to prepare for very chilly nights and extremely hot days over the next five days.
Kenya Met head David Gikungu warned Kenyans to brace themselves for frigid nights of up to 7°C and hot daytime temperatures of up to 37°C.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi County, is one of the areas expected to suffer such high temperatures.
Other counties in these regions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka.
According to Gikungu, temperatures in these locations would reach 8°C for the first three days, with temperatures projected to dip to 7°C for the remaining two days.
In addition, temperatures in the Northwestern region of Turkana and Samburu Counties were expected to reach a high of 37°C during the day.
Other counties cautioned to brace for excessive temperatures include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, with Gikungu stating that such locations would also see day temperatures of 37°C.
The weatherman’s temperature estimate comes amid heavy rains in several sections of the country.
Kenya Met predicted significant rains in several regions of the country, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and Nandi counties.
Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot are among the other counties expected to see significant rains.
Meanwhile, Nairobi County was anticipated to get moderate rainfall beginning in the afternoon.
According to Kenya Met, the rains will continue for the next five days.
“Continued rainfall is likely over the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley regions. Northwestern Kenya may receive rainfall from Monday, 20th May,” Kenya Met announced.
“Residents and travellers should prepare for wet conditions in the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, Western Kenya, parts of Northwestern, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley regions.”
Similarly, strong southerly and southeasterly winds of more than 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are forecast in the country’s eastern half and northwest region.
