Public Land Is Public Property – Ruto To Cartels Near Masinde Muliro Stadium

On Saturday, President William Ruto directed the immediate surrender of the land within the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi, Bungoma County.

While speaking at the Madaraka Day Celebrations, the Head of State issued the directive to allow the facility to expand.

While issuing the directive, Ruto stated that the land near the stadium was state-owned and urged those who lived on it to vacate.

While issuing the orders, the president stated that the contractors would not leave the site until the stadium was fully completed as planned.

Ruto also directed military officers tasked with renovating the stadium to work hand in hand with the contractors to ensure that the renovation works.

“Let me ask the people around this stadium especially those who have decided to acquire some of the public lands, please, let’s respect each other and hand over the land,” Ruto directed.

“We do not want forceful evictions or wrangles with anyone, we want to do it with respect because public land is public property,” he added.

Ruto also directed Bungoma County Governor Kenneth Lusaka to begin the process of acquiring additional land to expand the Matulo Airstrip.

The president stated that the government had already allocated funds to facilitate the expansion of the airstrip’s runway and the construction of new terminals.

“Just as I had said, you will not have to travel to Eldoret or Kisumu to catch a flight, you have the convenience of a new airport here in Webuye,” the president announced.

The directive comes just a day after the president announced that Bungoma would be granted city status.

Ruto revealed at a rally in Sirisia, Bungoma County, that the government had already implemented a comprehensive development plan to transform Bungoma into a city.
