Renown Lawyer And Other Activists Arrested for Protesting In Nairobi

A group of activists from the ‘The Concerned Citizens Kenya’ and ‘Linda Jamii’ organizations were dispersed and arrested on Saturday while protesting increasing taxes placed on Kenyans and what they dubbed the Executive’s impunity in governing the country.

The group marched from Kaloleni social hall to the Treasury and was on its way to Parliament buildings when police dispersed it by arresting some of its members.

The activists planned to launch the Mwananchi Bill, which they described as an alternative to the Finance Bill 2024 and aimed to protest the Kenya Kwanza administration’s excessive taxes on Kenyans.

The police detained four persons, including lawyer and founder Linda Jamii Prof. Fred Ogola, and impounded two motorcycles.

“I am willing to go anywhere for the sake of this country. If this is how you treat people, take me even to hell today, I will go,” said Prof. Ogola.

“I took my time, wrote a letter, gave the police, the Regional Officer said ‘received.’ Then you come and put a pingu on my hand, what is a pingu? You can tie my hand but you can’t tie my head…you can’t tie my spirit.”
