Nairobi MP’s Visa Appeal To Ambassador Whitman For Comedian Seeking Endometriosis Treatment
Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o, has begged with US Ambassador Meg Whitman after a comedian with endometriosis was denied a visa.
According to the MP, Sylvia Savai, also known as Senjee, planned to travel to the United States for treatment.
However, on Wednesday morning, June 5, she was informed that her visa application had been refused.
Jalang’o went on to say that the comedian had been soliciting donations to help with the therapy, emphasizing the importance of the ambassador being involved.
The MP noted that the comedian’s treatment will be timely, given that anti-endometriosis activist Jahmby Koikai died from the condition on Tuesday.
“Ambassador, we have raised little money for her treatment, all she needs is a visa to America for treatment!
“This morning she has been denied a visa! Kindly let your good office help! We just lost an endo warrior yesterday! Kindly hear her cry!” Jalang’o stated.
Senjee had earlier asked Kenyans to help collect Ksh 12 million for the treatment in the United States.
“She’s battling a condition known as endometriosis which is causing her to paralyse on the right side of her body every month during her menses, that has caused some of her organs to fail, she has to undergo two surgeries.
“She is in need of specialised treatment in the u.s which is supposed to take place in June 2024. The treatment estimation is Ksh12 million and Senjee needs your help,” read the poster in part.
At the time of publication, neither the ambassador nor the US embassy had responded to the petition.
The reasons why the visa application was denied are likewise unknown.
