Bondo Magistrate Calls Off Session After A Man Collapsed And Died In Court
A family in Bondo sub-county is in mourning after a relative collapsed and died while testifying in a land succession case at the Bondo Magistrate’s Court.
Obonyo collapsed around noon and was immediately taken to a private hospital by his family, where he died during treatment.
Mr. Cleti Kimaiyo, the Siaya County Police Commander, reported that the incident was first reported to the Bondo police station by Mr. Dick Ochiel, the Bondo law courts administrator.
Despite a follow-up at Bondo Sub-County Hospital, no records of Obonyo’s treatment were found.
An investigation revealed that the family had taken Obonyo to Bama Hospital’s Bondo branch.
After confirming his death, they reportedly returned the body home without filing a police report.
Mr. Kimaiyo confirmed the sequence of events but noted that the family had not filed a formal report with the police.
This comes just a day after a senior police officer shot a magistrate at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi on Thursday, June 13.
According to the police report, Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti was shot by a police officer named Samson Kipruto inside the courtroom after an argument.
According to the police, court orderlies quickly neutralised the officer in Court Room 9.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the officer was the accused’s husband, who allegedly opened fire on the magistrate after his wife’s bail was revoked for failing to attend a court session.
