Impeachment Loading – Ruto’s Outspoken CS To DP Gachagua

On Saturday, June 15, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria mocked the Deputy President over his alleged disagreements with President William Ruto.

CS Kuria shared a video from August 2023 in which the Deputy President mocked him for arriving late to a President-convened event.

At the time, the President had asked CS Kuria to explain why he arrived late for the performance signing contract event at State House in Nairobi.

The CS, who had previously taunted that impeachment was imminent, shared a video of DP Gachagua appearing to be ecstatic about his situation.

While CS Kuria did not specify who would be affected by the impeachment motion, he did compare how political fortunes had changed.

When Kuria was locked out of State House in August 2023, DP Rigathi Gachagua maintained a cordial relationship with the President.

Kuria had previously complained that the DP was out to get him kicked out of the cabinet, implying that he was behind the move to transfer the former parliamentarian from the Trade Ministry to the Public Service docket.

Kuria contrasted his own experience with Gachagua’s apology to the Head of State for arriving late to the Akurinu celebration in the edited clip captioned ‘Mungu nifunze kunyamaza (God teach me to shut my mouth)’.

Now, the CS appears to be close to the President, whereas the DP has openly criticised President William Ruto’s government, including the revenue-sharing formula.

Kuria chastised Gachagua for claiming to be a villager while speaking in Nyeri County on Saturday, June 15.

“The largest problem in Kenya is tribalism. There are some people who never go beyond their village and he wants to be a leader,” he made a snide remark towards the Deputy President.

“I have achieved everything now and will retire with President Ruto but in the remaining years, I will cause headaches to some people.”

The CS also stated that he would host a football tournament in Kiambu County, inviting President Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and Azimio Leader Raila Odinga, among other leaders.

Gachagua’s name was noticeably absent from the list of politicians who would be invited to the event.
