Bungei stated that they received a ‘faulty’ document dated June last year that does not meet the protest permission threshold.
“We have heightened our patrols within the CBD to ensure there is no disruption of businesses. Nobody applied for any license or permit to do the protests,” said Bungei.
Speaking with AfricasNow, the police chief stated that officers have been mobilized to ensure that any gatherings in the CBD are dispersed immediately.
This comes as activists led by Boniface Mwangi have already released a detailed plan for the ‘Occupy Parliament’ protest against the Finance Bill 2024.
The ‘Occupy Parliament’ demonstrations are intended to put pressure on lawmakers to vote against the bill, which the House will consider on Tuesday.
Several protesters have since been arrested for participating in the demonstrations, which the police have declared illegal.
Several protesters have been arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District.
