Kenya Police Refutes Authorizing Thursday’s Anti-Finance Bill Demonstrations
The National Police Service (NPS) has denied that Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has authorized peaceful protests scheduled for Thursday in Nairobi County.
In response to a viral letter that was circulating on social media, NPS flagged it as fake.
Furthermore, the police urged Kenyans to disregard the letter because it did not come from them.
According to the viral post, protesters from the “Occupy Parliament” movement were allowed to march as long as they did not disrupt city business.
Furthermore, the post claimed that the march was permitted as long as it occurred between 12 and 5 p.m.
The post also contained the signature of the Inspector General.
Furthermore, the letter stated that the police would revoke the permit if the protestors engaged in any form of violence, vandalism, or illegal activity.

Furthermore, the organizing committee had been tasked with coordinating with the police department to ensure a smooth and orderly demonstration.
There were also claims that a liaison officer would be assigned to work with the organizers to ensure compliance with all conditions.
However, at the time of publication, the police had yet to confirm whether a permit would be issued for the planned protests.
Kenyans, on the other hand, have vowed to carry out their plans despite law enforcement’s silence on the issue.
Kenyans have taken to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the proposed tax measures in the 2024 Finance Bill, and the planned protests are the second phase of those demonstrations.
