POLICE BRUTALITY: Slain Rex Masai’s Mother Speaks After Police Shooting
Rex Masai’s mother described her son’s last moments before the shooting incident, which was captured on video on Thursday, June 20.
Gillian Munyao told the press that the 29-year-old was at work and was with a friend.
She explained that the two were in town to run some errands.
She revealed that the son was standing near the Nairobi Archives when a tear gas canister was thrown in the vicinity.
Because of the choking fumes, they fled, and the police pursued them.
A police officer fired a shot and struck him on the left thigh, causing him to fall.
“The friend says that they were standing near archives and a teargas canister was launched in their direction. However, when they were running he was shot.

“When the police left, the friend went to check on him. They even called the police to help them when the officer stated that they should leave him to die there,” she narrated.
On the other hand, she stated that she learned about the son’s shooting several minutes after 7 p.m.
She added that she was unable to see his son while he was still alive because she learned of his death when she arrived in town.
“I was called around 7 pm in the evening and I was informed that he had been shot in the left leg and that he was taken to a clinic near Archives.
“When I arrived in Town, I was told that he was no more,” the distraught mother stated.
She also called on the government to investigate the incident and bring justice to their firstborn son.
“I want to ask the government for justice for the person who killed my son,” she added.
The police officer who allegedly fired the shot has yet to be arrested.
Despite a growing public outcry, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into the incident.
