UDA MP Apologizes For Passing The Finance Bill 2024
Joseph Namuar, who is also a strong United Democratic Party (UDA) affiliate, stated that President William Ruto’s decision not to sign the Bill into law has opened the door for dialogue.
He also pleaded with his constituents for pardon after voting to pass the Bill, which sparked violent protests and resulted in protester deaths.
“I laud him for the leadership he has exhibited today to show Kenyans that he can listen to their views. If there is a way we did wrong for those of us who voted YES we ask for your forgiveness,” he said.
“Also as your (President Ruto) footsoldiers, we ask for forgiveness on your behalf.”

President Ruto bowed to mounting pressure on Wednesday, announcing that he would not sign the unsavory Bill into law after nationwide protests erupted, with protesters even breaching Parliament in the capital.
The breach occurred a few minutes after lawmakers voted 195 to 106 in favor of the tax bill, which protesters argue will raise the cost of living with the proposed punitive taxes in place.
Meanwhile, protesters have threatened to march to State House today, Thursday 27th, to express their displeasure with President Ruto’s administration.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have begun rolling armed trucks and tanks into Nairobi, ostensibly to assist police officers in maintaining calm.
Major roads leading to the State House have been heavily barricaded.
