Alfred Keter Details The Grilling By DCI Detectives On Relationship With Gachagua and Uhuru
Former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter revealed on Monday that he was interrogated about his relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after being arrested on Sunday.
Speaking as he presented himself to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Keter revealed that the police questioned him about his role in trafficking arms to Congo, which law enforcement authorities suspected him of doing.
“When I was arrested, I was asked about my relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and my relationship with the current Deputy President,” Keter stated.
However, Keter was adamant that his dramatic arrest was due to his stance on the anti-Finance Bill protests that have been taking place across the country.
He maintained that the arrest was an intimidation tactic after his harsh criticism of the government in the recent past.
“Let us follow the rule of law but generally, do not intimidate us into silence,” he added.
Keter also accused the Kenya Kwanza government of failing to keep its promises to Kenyans made during the campaign.
The former legislator also accused the government of misrepresenting facts to Kenyans, which he blamed for Kenyans’ widespread indifference to the regime.
His comments come after a dramatic arrest that sparked public outrage on Sunday when the officers arresting him appeared to be conducting an abduction.
Keter was forced out of his car as his family screamed and cried on their way home from church.
However, later on Sunday evening, the DCI confirmed the arrest, citing that the former MP was on their radar for charges related to arms trafficking and incitement for violence.
During a roundtable interview on Sunday night, the President confirmed the arrest, saying that the police arrested Keter after he failed to comply with law enforcement authorities’ summons.
