Charlene Ruto Says Gen Z Protests Were Brought By ‘Dark Forces’
President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene, has urged young people to use their platforms to promote peace throughout the country.
Charlene claimed that the recent violent demonstrations were the result of a push by ‘dark forces’ to cause chaos in the country.
She claimed that businesses were looted during the protests, leaving owners with significant losses.
“We have used our voices and platforms to be a part of current affairs,” she said on Wednesday.
“I say we because I stand before you today, not just as the President’s daughter but as one of you. A young Kenyan passionate about our country’s future.”
Charlene spoke after meeting with 47 County Student Association leaders.
“I hear your voices and understand your concerns. The challenges we face as a generation are real and pressing; from unemployment to the rising cost of living, we are all feeling the impact of our current economic situation.”
Today I was welcomed by 47 presidents of 47 county student associations, some of whom I have been working with for the past almost 2 years kwa ground, to participate in their agreement as young leaders. This is indeed what I encourage – constructive engagement.

She stated that youth participation in national affairs is necessary and welcome.
The President’s daughter urged young people to consider the complexities of governance, stating that while solutions may appear simple, they can have unintended consequences.
“This doesn’t mean that we should stop pushing for change, but we should approach issues with nuance and openness to dialogue. As I continue to use my platform to support all young people, I would like us to engage constructively,” she added.
“Let us criticise when necessary and propose solutions. Let us be the generation that is known, not just for its passion but for innovation in governance and civic participation.”
Charlene stated that she will listen and learn from the youths to find solutions for the country.
She added that the government, through the Ministry of Youth, works with young people.
“We will not allow anyone to use our name to misalign us and to put us away from the support that we need.”
Charlene stated that the youth require the support of the government and agencies and support the current administration.
She stated that peace has been absent in Kenya in recent days.
Kenyans, primarily from Generation Z, have taken to the streets to protest an unpopular tax regime and are now demanding a slew of governance reforms.
The nationwide protests have resulted in numerous injuries, several deaths, and property destruction.

President William Ruto declined to sign the contentious Finance Bill 2024, which sparked outrage.
However, this has done little to appease many who are still angry about the state of the country today, including high public expenditure.
