
Death Toll Rises From The Bus-Trailer Collision Along The Nairobi-Garissa Highway
A bus collided with a trailer on the Nairobi-Garissa Highway, killing more than 10 people.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, July 11, involving a bus headed to Mandera.
At the time of publication, the cause of the accident had not been determined.
However, reports indicated that the accident occurred during an overtaking attempt.

After attempting to overtake an unknown vehicle, the bus veered off and collided with the trailer.
Following the incident, rescue operations were launched, with well-wishers moving quickly to assist those who were injured.
The survivors of the Friday morning accident are currently receiving treatment at the Garissa Referral Hospital.
Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan confirmed the accident, stating that ten people died in the Friday morning accident.
He mourned those who had died, stating that the accident was tragic.
“I am saddened to learn of an accident involving the Makkah bus last night in Mwingi in which 10 people died. I send my condolences to the families of our brothers and sisters who have left us and the entire people of Mandera.
“I pray to Allah (SWT) to forgive their sins and admit them to Janatul Firdous, Amen. I also pray to Allah to give the families of our brothers and sisters the strength to cope with their loss,” he stated.
According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), over 1,000 people died in road accidents between January and April 2024.
Notably, pedestrians were the most affected by the accidents.
