Rift Valley Governor’s Office Stormed By Youthful Protesters Demanding To Be Heard
On Tuesday, angry protesters stormed Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi’s office in Kabarnet, demanding an audience with him.
The rowdy protesters, mostly youth, marched down the road leading to the governor’s office, chanting Cheboi’s name in unison.
While protesting, the young protesters demanded a meeting with the governor to discuss several issues that they claimed were affecting the county.
During the heightened demonstrations outside the governor’s office, protesters accused Cheboi of failing to keep his promises to them and demanded accountability.
Baringo residents are demonstrating for the first time since independence.

The videos obtained by AfricasNow showed the protesters attempting to pull down the governor’s metallic gate as they sought access to his compound.
Meanwhile, others may be apprehended attempting to climb the perimeter wall that surrounds the governor’s office.
However, their attempts to gain entry into Cheboi’s compound failed when police officers on high alert intervened and began dispersing them.
After hours of protesting outside the governor’s office, Cheboi was forced to emerge and address the crowd.
Governor Benjamin Cheboi, flanked by his bodyguards, pledged to heed the protesters’ demands and stated that he was prepared to engage them.
The incident in Baringo occurred barely a week after protesters stormed Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok’s office compound, demanding his removal.
During their protests, Bomet residents lit a bonfire along the main highway leading into town, paralyzing the transportation system and forcing most businesses to close.
Furious residents accused Hillary Barchok of incompetence and mismanagement of county funds.
