Rebecca Miano Responds To The Omission From Cabinet Nominees’ List Submitted To Parliament

President William Ruto’s decision to leave Rebecca Miano’s name off the list of nominees sent to the National Assembly for vetting has sparked public speculation.

Miano, formerly the Cabinet Secretary for Investments and Trade, was reassigned to the role of Attorney General in the new Cabinet nominations announced by Ruto last week.

On July 19, 2024, she accepted the nomination and expressed gratitude for the opportunity via her X account.

“I thank H.E. Dr. William Ruto CGH for nominating me to the role of Attorney~General of the Republic of Kenya,” she posted on her X account on July 19, 2024.

“Granted the opportunity,  I promise to apply myself fully to the tasks attached to that solemn office with my focus being on serving the people of my beloved motherland with utmost dedication, humility and a listening ear.”

However, when Speaker Moses Wetangula presented the list of nominees to the Assembly on Tuesday, Miano’s name was noticeably absent, despite the fact that the other ten nominees’ names were included.

The reason for this omission is unknown, as no official communication has been issued indicating whether Miano’s nomination has been dropped or if she will be reassigned.

Miano responded to the omission by posting a message on her X account several hours later.

“When rumour mills are rolling, the well-advised stay still,” posted Miano.

In the midst of widespread speculation about her exclusion from the list, her statement was interpreted as a cautious approach.

President Ruto is expected to make a second round of nominations in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Speaker Wetangula has confirmed that all Cabinet nominees, including those reappointed, will be thoroughly vetted by Parliament.

“The record that has arrived in this House is what I have read to you,” said Wetangula.

“Nobody will become Minister until and unless the President has written to Parliament, until Parliament has sat in Committee and vetted and until the Whole House has voted on the report of the vetting Committee.”
