UDA Governor Bans Office Tea And Withdraws Chase Cars As Budget Cuts Kicks In

Following a budget cut to devolved units, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has ordered a county-wide freeze on unnecessary expenditures.

Bii ordered an end to tea service at county offices and promised to withdraw his Chase car, among other austerity measures to reduce spending.

“We will no longer entertain wastage like office tea and county cars loitering. We now have to live within our means,” he said.

He stated that President William Ruto’s withdrawal of the Finance Bill resulted in budget cuts for counties, necessitating austerity measures in all sectors.

The governor stated that there was no money to waste and ordered all of his officers to be accountable for their actions, failing which they would face consequences.

Bii stated that he would officially communicate the austerity measures to all of his officers and that he did not require additional escorts while working in the county.

“County executives, chief officers and other staff must now know that I will not carry anyone’s cross. If things get to the worst then I will act,” Bii said.

The county manager stated that he had forgiven those who raided and burned part of his offices during the recent Gen Z protests.

He claimed that goons took advantage of the protests to target the county offices.

He claimed that a secret hand planned and coordinated the attack on county facilities.

Bii, who was speaking during prayers at the county headquarters, stopped short of naming the individual.

“That person has dared me and let me warn him that I am ready for a face off.”

The county administrator questioned why the attackers targeted the county’s ICT department, where several computers were destroyed.

“From what happened, it’s obvious that someone jealous was behind the attack on the county,” Bii said.

Facilities damaged during the protests included the national library, the county court, and the ICT department.

“I wonder how those who did it just looked for the ICT department and not my office,” he said.

The governor stated that he had recently spoken with Generation Z, who were also outraged by the attack on public facilities.
