Court Orders MP Salasya Be Arrested Over Ksh.500K Debt From 2022
An arrest warrant has been issued for Mumias East MP Peter Salasya for allegedly failing to repay a Kakamega businessman.
Caroline Cheruiyot, Adjudicator of the Kakamega Small Claims Court, issued the directive after the MP allegedly failed to clear the Ksh.563,000 debt.
The debt includes Ksh.500,000, which he allegedly borrowed from the businessman in 2022, as well as interest accrued according to the court’s evaluation.
In November 2023, the same court ordered Salasya to clear the debt owed to businessman Robert Lutta.

The businessman had filed a case challenging the legislator to pay the debt allegedly advanced to him on December 13, 2022, with the understanding that he would repay the loan after two months.
Lutta went so far as to produce court documents from the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Mumias branch to prove that he wired the funds to Salasya’s bank account.
In his defense, Salasya denied borrowing money from the businessman, claiming that he lent the claimant Ksh.1 million through his political advisor, Mr. Bernard Kemba.
However, in her ruling, Magistrate Gladys Kiama dismissed Salasya’s argument for a lack of evidence.
“I also note that there was nothing to support the allegations that the claimant borrowed money from the respondent, there was no evidence to support his claim,” she said then.
