‘Hatutaki Fujo,’ – Ruto Declares Ahead Of Nane Nane Demonstrations
On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, during his tour of Embu County, President Ruto stated that Kenya is a country that believes in peace.
The Head of State stated that protests resulting in property destruction will not be tolerated.
“Sisi ni nchi ambayo tunaamini kwa amani. Hatutaki fujo katika taifa letu la Kenya. Hatutaki maandamano ambayo inaleta maafa, ambayo inaleta uharibifu wa mali, ambayo watu wanapoteza maisha yao,” Ruto stated.
President Ruto went on to urge Embu residents to maintain peace ahead of the upcoming nane nane protests on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

“Tunataka amani. Watu wa Embu mnasema mnataka amani ama mnataka fujo iendelee? Mnataka amani? Hebu nione kwa mkono wale wanasema tunataka amani katika taifa letu la Kenya,” Ruto said.
The Nane Nane March protests are being organized on social media by young people who are outraged by President Ruto’s decision to reappoint ten of the 22 Cabinet Secretaries he dismissed.
The youth also became angry when Ruto nominated four people from the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) party to his Cabinet.
On July 24, 2024, President Ruto announced the second batch of his Cabinet, nominating then-ODM chairman John Mbadi to lead the National Treasury and then-National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
Ruto also appointed two ODM Deputy Party Leaders, Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho, to the Ministries of Cooperatives and Mining, respectively.
He described his decision as an effort to create a broad-based government that includes everyone.
Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga have stated that they are working together to unite Kenyans and put an end to the anti-government protests.
However, this has not gone down well with some Kenyan youth, who are mobilizing for more protests, with posters for the Nane Nane March clogging social media timelines.
On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli issued a statement encouraging protesters to remain peaceful.
Masengeli also issued a stern warning to anyone who violated the law, paving the way for another round of running battles between police and protesters.
On social media platforms, young people have been encouraging one another to participate in the upcoming Nane Nane March.
